Plan 90 Days Out for a Full Kitchen Remodel

Want a new kitchen before the holidays? Start now by scheduling a pre-planning appointment with Allstar Electrical Services. The pros at Allstar Electrical know what it takes to turn an outdated kitchen into a space a gourmet chef envies. We can work with you or your designer to plan the electrical requirements of your kitchen in advance of construction.

Layered lighting is the newest look in kitchen design. Can lighting on the ceiling on one switch companioned with pendant lights over the counter workspace plus chandeliers over the island are some of the layers of electrical lighting essential to a full remodel. Interestingly, each lighting layer uses fixtures that don’t match—the cans, pendants and chandeliers being a distinct style manufactured of different materials like colored glass, crystal, galvanized metal and even wood. The mood of your kitchen space is best controlled with these different layers of lights each on their own switch.

Besides upgrading your lighting fixtures, you’ll definitely want under-cabinet lighting as well as in-cabinet lighting for cabinets with glass front panels. Arched lights that attach to the top of wall-hung cabinets is ideal to light the countertop workspace below as well as the contents in the cabinet. Energy-saving green fixtures are cost effective to operate and smart light bulbs last longer and save replacement costs as time goes on. LED spotlights and under-cabinet lighting are preferred over fluorescent lighting of yesterday. The LED spots can be directed to highlight specific areas of your workspace or countertop. Plus they can be used to highlight wall-hung art.

More cooks today go online for recipes vs. old-school cookbooks. Include a pop-up electric outlet on your countertop surface for your laptop and phone charger. Keep up with your favorite television show with a wall-hung or in-cabinet TV, also requiring outlets for power.

Super-chefs use a microwaves, Cuisinart, blender, pasta maker, Crockpot, and mixer when preparing a gourmet meal. You’ll want to include more outlets on your backsplash wall today than you would have needed two decades ago. Cabinets in 2013 are equipped with hideaway shelves for appliances so that they can be used in place. Install outlets on the wall before installing the cabinets so that the power comes to you vs. having to go to the power source to use your appliance. These behind-cabinet outlets eliminate cords and clutter, consistent with the streamlined look of today’s modern kitchen.

You may want a beverage center complete with a built-in coffeemaker. Be sure to include lighting to light up the beverage workspace on those pre-dawn mornings.

Stainless steel exhaust hoods are the rage today and require ventilation as well as an outlet in the wall behind the hood. If you elect to install a built-in icemaker, that too requires an outlet. The same goes for your dishwasher, trash compactor or wine refrigerator.
